Plaza Gerardo Barrios

Located in the heart of San Salvador, the statue of the hero Gerardo Barrios is a landmark in the capital town of the historic center. It was unveiled in 1909, on the same site surrounding iconic buildings such as the National Palace and the Metropolitan Cathedral today.

The sculptor Francisco Durini was the creator of this piece made of bronze is shown on a military statue. You are placed on a pedestal of granite, at his sides, shows scenes of battles of the time and the national emblem of El Salvador.

Historically in this place have resulted in major events such as the riots that were generated during the funeral of Archbishop Oscar Arnulfo Romero was murdered in 1980 and the celebration of the end of the Civil War in February 1992.
