Gulf of Fonseca
Among the Republics of El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua the Pacific Ocean form the Gulf of Fonseca, discovered 1522, by the Chief Pilot Gil González de Ávila, Aborigines called this water inlet "Chorotegan", but its Spanish discoverer gave the present name in honor of Fray Juan Rodríguez de Fonseca, former Bishop of Burgos and president of the royal and supreme council of Indian.
