At the town of “the Flower Bird” there is wide range of shops with local crafts that demonstrate the talent and creativity of the Salvadoran craftsmen.

Suchitec is a unique shop, where you will find attractive products such as paintings on “petates” (a traditional sleeping mat), local textiles and bamboo decorations.

You may also buy colorful woven hammocks from San Sebastian and La Palma (both provinces of Chalatenango), among a large variety of other Salvadoran crafts; prices vary from Us$ 1.00 to US$ 200.00.

 

How to get there:

Distance from San Salvador: 47 kilometers.

From San Salvador you may drive along the Boulevard del Ejército Nacional (National Army Boulevard) or Carretera Panamericana. Drive to San Martin and follow the signs to Suchitoto. The drive takes approximately 1 hour 30 minutes.

Bus route:

- Route 129 from San Salvador (East Terminal) to San Martin and Suchitoto (every 15 minutes).

- Route 163 from Aguilares to Suchitoto (every 40 minutes)

- Route 482: from Ilobasco, Tejutepeque and Cinquera to Suchitoto (two departures per day)
