Restaurant "La Estancia"

This house was built in 1910 and is regarded as one of Architectural Treasures of the city of Ahuachapán.

The house is the work of Samuel Valdivieso, whose wife “Carmen” gives the name to “Villa Carmen”, as the house was formerly known.

This building has two levels and is surrounded by a courtyard. Access is thru a front fence; some people might consider the style of the house to be “Victorian”.

Where to eat:

Since 1986, this house functions a restaurant and also as a place for social gatherings. Breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks are served and they include typical Salvadoran food at affordable prices from US$ 2.00 to US$ 6.50.

How to get there:

Address: 1st South Avenue # 1-3, Barrio El Centro, Abroad, near the road leading to “Los Ausoles” or to the town of Ataco.

If driving from San Salvador, drive towards Santa Ana and continue on the Pan-American Highway (CA-1) towards Chalchuapa, and Ahuachapán. Once you are there ask the police or locals for the street leading to Ataco. The restaurant is located on the left side of the street. CEFAFA Pharmacy located in the same block.

By bus take Route 202 from San Salvador to Ahuachapán. Cost from US$ 1.50 to US$ 2.50. You can also board route 210 from Santa Ana at U.S. $ 0.75. At the bus terminal take a “mototaxi” (tuk-tuk) from US$ 0.50 (per person) and within minutes you will find yourself at this beautiful site in Ahuachapán.
