Just 39 kilometers from San Salvador, this beautiful park is located in the south central area of the country, in the department of La Libertad. Visit this park if you want to experience a trip to the mountain and a wonderful view of the sea from a height ranging from 8 to 280 meters above sea level.

This park is the best example of tropical dry forest in El Salvador. Here you will be able to see a wide variety of fauna and flora including medicinal plants and trees in danger of becoming extinct, all in an area of 732 hectares.

This is a very important forest reserve in El Salvador ideal for conducting research in many fields. There is an interpretative center exhibiting different species of local flora and fauna.

There are guided tours available. They start on “The Lookout” (the outlook) with a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean. Next stop is “The Enchanted Cave” (with a peculiar history) later visitors move to “Chanseñora” a place with lush and unique vegetation.

Among the fauna you might run into: raccoons, deer, cuzucos (armadillos), snakes such as the Masacuata (from the Boa family) and coral. There are over 70 species of birds and 20 different amphibians.

In the mist of the forest you will run into the Amayo River adjacent to the “Put El Salto” where you can relax in the crystal clear waters.

If you like extreme sports there is a path named “The Coyolar” where you can hike, or try a free guided rappel practice. There is also mountain biking tours (2-3 km).

You can extend this adventure by camping in the park where you can do campfires; night hikes, or just enjoy yourself with the company of friends or family.

How to get there:

This park is situated right on the Coastal Highway (CA-2), going east from La Libertad (towards El Salvador International Airport).

Bus route “102” will take you from Cuscatlán Park (downtown San Salvador) to Puerto de La Libertad. Then board route “187” to get off at kilometer 39, (close to Playa San Diego Beach).
