La Libertad Town Square

| |

As part of the beauty of the town of Santa Ana, Parque Libertad is a place that concentrates great historical wealth.

Located in the heart of the city, it is surrounded by impressive architecture: the Cathedral, the National Theatre, The City Hall and the Casino Santaneco.

This park was built in June 1886 under the government of Francisco Menéndez. Its design shows Spanish influence. This park was the “Plaza Mayor” during the colonial era. It also has served as a town market and stage for festivals, rallies, acts of faith and even public executions.

Today Parque Libertad is a resting place for locals. There are street vendor offering hot drinks and local food at affordable prices. You will see shoe shiners (US 1.00) , a tradition inherited from an era gone by.

For your safety, you may enjoy a day in the historic center since it is monitored by Metropolitan Police.

How to get there:

If driving by car from San Salvador, take the Panamerican Highway towards Santa Ana (which is signposted along the road). Entering Santa Ana use Independence Avenue and driver towards downtown (north).

The park is located across the City Hall and next to the “Teatro Nacional de Santa Ana”.

Bus Route:

From San Salvador to Santa Ana take Route 201 (we suggest taking the “special” for just a few cents more) at West Terminal. Ticket cost from US$ 0.85 to US$ 1.35
