Family Park
Since December 1996, the Family Park has been dedicated to the enjoyment of the Salvadoran family. Formerly known as Villa Rinaldi, it is located in the municipality of Panchimalco, 12 kilometers from San Salvador, and is one of the attractions of Planes de Renderos.
This site has an area of 33 acres of land where a variety of vegetation provides habitat for animals such as rabbits, squirrels, deer, birds and reptiles.
Here you will find an amphitheater capable of seating over 200 people. You will also find basketball courts, soccer and volleyball fields. There are children’s play areas and trails that take you around the property and to a lookout towards San Salvador volcano.
It is ideal for cycling, horseback riding and riding in a small-motorized train (contribution US$ 1.00). There are non-motorized rides for the kids at US$ 0.35.
On weekends this park holds special activities for the whole family, including clown performances and sales of traditional foods at low prices. There is a cafeteria and food vendors around the lookout.
How to get there:
This park is located south of Balboa Park on the street leading to Puerta del Diablo always on Los Planes de Renderos. If driving, just follow the signs right after Balboa Park.
Buses that go to Family Park include: “12” bus taken in downtown San Salvador near the Central Market. Ticket costs US$ 0.25 to US$ 0.35.
Where to eat:
Family Park offers more than 10 dining options within a cafeteria or food court. Most of them sell Salvadoran food like pupusas (from US$ 0.45) or complete family style dishes (ranging from US$ 2.50 to US$ 3.00).
If you visit on Saturday or Sunday, you will find a variety of typical food, especially corn recipes (atol, riguas, corn on the cob) an many others.
