Central Park attack
This town has a name pipilname, meaning in Nahuatl “The Place of High Springs.”
Here you will see cobblestone streets and colorful houses, which preserve the architecture of the villages from the past.
At the central park,there is a space dedicated for conducting food festivals and social events that take place every weekend and that is visitedpopular with locals and foreign tourist.
This town square is located in front of the beautiful Church of the Immaculate Conception, patroness of the town.There is a central gazebo where bands play for the food festival. There is a large fountain that adorns the paths at the park.
The park was remodeled in November 2002, there is a memorial to “Fray Rafael Fernandez,” Franciscan friar who helped rebuild the main temple.
How to get there:
By car, start at the Route of the Flowers, tdrivingowards the town of Conception Ataco. The road well signposted, from San Salvador you may start your tour through the streets of Sonsonate.
Access is through the Ruta de las Flores (CA-8). 7 kilometers from Apaneca going towards Ahuachapán.
By bus board route 249 at Sonsonate terminal, this bus will leave you at the entrance of the city. You may also take 208 route going from Sonsonate to Ahuachapán. The fare is US$ 0.75.
