Museum of the Word and Image (MUPI)

Founded by Venezuelan journalist Carlos Henriquez Consalvi, the Museum of the Word and Image is a private initiative dedicated to the research, rescue, preservation and display of the of culture and history of El Salvador over the last 20 years.

If you want to go back in time and learn about important people from El Salvador, visit the MUPI, where you’ll find collections of photos, audio, film, video, artifacts and a variety of publications that have been donated to the museum by those who wished to counteract ”the forgetfulness virus ” sometimes associated to Salvadoran society.

At MUPI you will find more than 30,000 photographs of El Salvador and its contemporary and historical recent events. You will also find archaeological and anthropological data as well as images of the civil war and the peace process.

There are interesting audiovisuals that were generated during the civil war period. All visitors are welcome at the audio library, which contains historical tape recordings including files generated by the popular Radio Venceremos and Radio Farabundo Martí.

Within the range of exhibitions offered by the MUPI you will appreciate:

  • Himantes diam Xitrán: The Worlds of Salarrué. An exhibition of objects, letters and personal belongings of the artist and his family.
  • Roque Dalton: “Storm playing the Root of Volcanoes”
  • “The Cave of Passions”: a replica of Radio Venceremos. cabin.

Students, the disabled, adults over 60 years, and ex-combatants: FREE.

    Me interesa mucho conocer su museo de ustedes, sobre todo la manera de como rescan su cultura, para un progreso propio de ese pais. Ojalá proximo vieje en ese pais, para conocerlo bien. Yo vivo en una provincia del Estado de Oaxaca, Mexico.
