Art Museum of El Salvador (MARS)
One of San Salvador’s best attractions is the Museum of Art (MARS). Located in Colonia San Benito, in the vicinity of the International Center for Fairs and Conventions (CIFCO), is part of a cultural complex along with Presidente Theatre and The Monument to the Revolution.
This museum opened its doors in 2003 after a cumulative effort of several years involving many organizations. MARTE holds permanent and temporary exhibits. This museum shows the most valuable Salvadoran works of art in a period going from mid-nineteenth century to contemporary times.
MARTE private collections include paintings, drawings, prints and sculptures. There are more than 260 works of arts on display created by over 177 Including artists Rosa Mena Valenzuela, Salarrué (famous Salvadoran writer and painter), Cesar Menéndez, Roberto Huezo, Carlos Cañas, José Mejía Vides and many more.Temporary exhibitions range from one month to three months.
Some of the work at te museum is the creation of local artist masters in their own expertise. There are educational program as well in MARTE. Some of them are guided tours mainly directed to the nation’s public schools. On Saturdays there are workshops and lectures in relation to the current work on display.
MARTE hold special events as well, concerts featuring the National Symphony Orchestra of El Salvador, among other activities. For more information MARTE has a schedule to learn about these events.
If you wish to purchase handcrafts, national literature, and postcards there is a gift shop within the museum. You will also find jewelry, an a extensive and colorful array of clothing and accessories of known brands.
How to get there:
Address: The end of Avenida Revolucion, adjacent to the Teatro Presidente.
If travelling by car, drive from the International Center for Fairs and Conventions (CIFCO), up to the Monument of the Revolution. The entrance is on the right side of the monument. For your convenience, the parking lot is large and secure.
If travelling by bus, use route 30-B (from the Metrocenter Mall). Ask the driver for a stop at Plaza Italia. The monument is walking distance. Ticket cost US$ 0.25 to US$0.35

MARTE is complemented by a fine restaurant/cafe: “Punto Literario”, a sophisticated and elegant choice to enjoy Mediterranean cuisine, coffee and fine wines.

I love this page is full of usefull information and is wonderfull to look up places in El Salvador i already visited MARTE and I like many of the artwork displayed there but I like more the store thats inside theres cool stuff in there.
