El Carmen Church

| |

Construction work for this church started in 1822. Historical data shows that the temple was finished until 1852, year when it was consecrated as a church.

The history of this building it is not completely recorded. It is said that from 1871 to 1881 the church was assigned to military troops.

In 1929 the Dominicans started taking care of it, the same year the church was elevated to parish.

This beautiful architectural gem is part of the Historical Center of the “Heroic City” of Santa Ana.

If you choose to visit it, you will find an impressive brick building with classic religious imagery and a central altar that portrays the cross of Calvary.

How to get there:

The church is located on South Independence Avenue and 7th West Street. From Santa Ana Cathedral you’ll see it at the end of Independence Avenue.

Bus Route:

From San Salvador to Santa Ana take Route 201 (we suggest taking the “special” for just a few cents more) at West Terminal. Ticket cost from US$ 0.85 to US$ 1.35
