Located 92 kilometers from San Salvador, El Poy borderline is one of the most important trade and tourism routes for both El Salvador and Honduras.

Here you will stop for customs procedures 24/7. There is trained bilingual staff (English) to help you deal with the paperwork required to travel to or from Honduras.

There are 2 windows (going out) and 2 windows (coming in) in order to speed up the process. Time varies depending on the number of travelers. Here you must fill out the “CA4” form with your personal data. CA4 is a personal document that aloud you to travel in Central America and it’s free. (It doesn’t include Costa Rica).

For Salvadoran citizens the single identity document (DUI) is required. Other options include birth certificate or passport.

If traveling with children, in the absence of one or both parents and legal guardians, a notarized document must be presented (original and copies).

How to get there

From San Salvador drive north along “Troncal del Norte Road” (4N) towards Apopa, Aguilares, La Palma and San Ignacio.

By Bus:

Route 119 taken at East Terminal (East Terminal) from San Salvador to La Palma, San Ignacio and Citalá. There is a bus departure every 30 minutes. Ticket cost is US$ 1.25 to US$3.00
