Chele's Restaurant
It is one of the best dining options in the historic town of Izalco and probably of all western region of El Salvador. The Salazar family, who own the restaurant, will kindly serve you.
Since 2006, El Chele’s Restaurant offers an extensive range of original dishes to the delight of all visitors. The atmosphere is reminiscent of era gone by, since the restaurant is located in a 200 years old colonial house, with its original facade, and classic colonial arrangement, where you will get a beautiful unobstructed view of Izalco Volcano.
The place is also packed with traditional furniture and antiques, including a beautiful piano, religious images from the early nineteenth century, old farm tools and pre-Hispanic archaeological pieces of clay or stone.
El Chele’s Restaurant offers a varied menu including: steaks, soups and seafood cocktails, with prices ranging from US$ 6.00 to US$ 12.00.

Roasted Rabbit: 1/4 farmed rabbit marinated and grilled over charcoal, served with rice and salad for US$ 7.00
Rabbit with Onions: 1/4 farmed rabbit sautéed with onions and seasonings, served with rice and salad for US$ 7.00
Braised Rabbit: farmed rabbit stew baked with vegetables and wine, accompanied by dark salad for US$ 7.00
Roast Boar Rib: Boar (from farm) Rib, grilled gaucho-style, accompanied by one baked potato and steamed vegetables for US$ 8.00
Crab soup Izalco: a delicious seafood soup made with local river crabs. You may finish your meal with coffee and dessert like a rich portion of house quesadilla for US$ 1.00. Typical Salvadorian breakfast is offered daily for US$ 5.00
How to get there:
By car take the road to Santa Ana (Pan-American highway) and at the overpass known as the “Polyhedron”, take the road to Sonsonate. Detour to Izalco is at kilometer 57. It takes about one hour to get there.
If going by bus, there are several options. From the West terminal in San Salvador, you may board “special” route 205 for US$ 1.30 (1 hour and 15 minutes), or regular route 205 for US$ 0.75 (1 hour and 45 minutes). From Sonsonate take Route 53 for US$ 0.23 cents (15 minutes) and from Santa Ana your Cerro Verde take 209 for US$ 0.70 (1 ½ hours). All buses will stop at the diversion to Izalco. From there you may take a motorcycle taxi for US$ 0.35.
