Cihuatán Archeological site

This site is located in the department of San Salvador, near to Aguilares city, it is believed that this site had been inhabited in the Early Post – Classic.

An artistic re construction of the site show a city with wall all around, with a pyramid, squares and minor structures, the figurines with wheels at Cihuatán, are testimony  of the great imagination of the Mayas.

Many of the Obsidian pieces  could come from Ixtepeque.

At Cihuatán has been found Tohil Plomiza ceramic.

It’s not discarded that this site had been influenced by the Tolteca culture at the end, and they even spoke Nahual in the region.

Cihuatán was abandoned at 1300 a.C.

It is one of the few complex that has the ball game area almost restored.
