International Center for Fairs and Conventions (CIFCO)
An important icon in the city of San Salvador is the International Center for Fairs and Conventions (CIFCO). Its facilities are located in Colonia San Benito in the vicinity of the well known Zona Rosa where is easy to find excellent transport facilities, first class hotels and restaurants of all kinds.
CIFCO is popularly known as the “International Fair.” This location was created by a legislative decree in 1965 and by Francisco Guerrero President of the Republic during that time. It was not until 2007, that another legislative decree renamed the complex as International Center for Fairs and Conventions (CIFCO).
The goal of this convention center is to promote the country and the Central American region at an international level, through fairs, exhibitions, conferences, conventions and other events of similar nature. CIFCO also promotes the development of commerce, industry, agriculture, and culture.
In the period 2004 to 2008, CIFCO modernized its facilities, and now it has over 18 thousand square meters distributed in 7 exhibition halls and 6 rooms. They are fully air-conditioned, and the main hall is the largest in El Salvador. There is also an amphitheater with a capacity of up to 10 thousand spectators, and that is used for special protocol events, shows and concerts. There are 2 parking lots, the internal has a capacity of 200 vehicles and external 500.
For years, CIFCO has hosted periodic fairs specially every august where “Consuma fair” takes during San Salvador’s yearly holidays. During that time visitor will find all kinds of products on sale, there are family recreation areas and youth areas, food courts, mechanical rides, and much more.
How to get there:
Address: The Revolution Ave. Not. 222, Colonia San Benito, San Salvador.
If traveling by car, CIFCO is located just across the National Museum of Anthropology (FIRST) going towards Colonia San Benito using ” The Revolution Avenue. The outdoor parking lot will be open if there is an event taken place at CIFCO. Parking is US$ 2.00; there is taxi service just outside the facilities. Prices ranging from US$ 5.00 to US$ 10.00
Public transport routes are: 30-B (outside of the main entrance of CIFCO), 101, routes and 42 and interdepartmental (on the east side, using the Panamerican Highway). Ticket ranges between US$ 0.25 and US$ 0.35.
