Cathedral of St. Vincent

| | |

Just 58 km from San Salvador you will find the city of San Vicente, in an important province of central El Salvador, and a city with great historical and architectural legacy.

Among its most representative buildings is the historical church of El Pilar, the imposing tower of San Vincente and the cathedral at the town main square.

The cathedral was consecrated on December 18, 1943. The design of the facade is eclectic with neoclassical influences.

At the main entrance you may appreciate a stunning representation of San Vicente of Abad, a low relief casted in bronze.

The original centralnave of the church collapsed during the earthquakes of 2001, thus this part was completely reconstructed. The new design emulates the architectural elements of the facade. Along the hallway there is a ceramic design on the floor that leads to the main imposing marble altar.

Main festivities at San Vicente are held annually from December 15th to the 31st in honor of San Vicente Abad and Martyr. Other holidays include Lord of Esquipulas held on January 15th and October 25th and November 3rd in honor of All Saints.

Visit San Vicente and discover the architectural legacy that awaits you at this stunning region of El Salvador.
