Arc Duran (Duran Arch)

This architectural landmark at Ahuachapán was built in 1910, by the initiative of Onofre Duran, a native of the city, who served as Vice President during the administration of Manuel Enrique Araujo.

According to history, the idea was to create a meeting place for the presidents of El Salvador and Guatemala. Arco Duran was named after its creator, who also had the support of Dámaso Aguilar.

Apparently, it is made of masonry, with a neoclassical style. In addition, this monument is protected by Hague Convention of 1954, making this place a unique architectural legacy for the city of Ahuchapán.

How to get there:

Address: Pan-American Highway. Route to Las Chinamas International border, Abroad.

If driving from San Salvador, drive towards Santa Ana and continue on the Pan-American Highway (CA-1) towards Chalchuapa, follow directions to Las Chinamas. Arco Durán will be on your left, right after Ahuchapán.

By bus take Route 202 from San Salvador to Ahuachapán, cost from US$ 1.50 to US$ 2.50. You can also board route 210 from Santa Ana at U.S. $ 0.75. At the bus terminal take a “mototaxi” (tuk-tuk) from US$ 0.50 (per person) and within minutes you will find yourself at this beautiful site in Ahuachapán.

Other routes that circulate in this area are: R-61 and R-11-AH. Ticket cost from US$ 0.25.
